Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin Deliver Champions League Win to Arsenal
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, considers Barca the world’s top team – he must feel extremely proud that his men defeated them today.
Two late goals from Robin Van Persie and Andrey Arshavin led to an exciting comeback for Arsenal as the English side won against Barcelona 2-1.
David Villa had opened the scoring on 26 minutes. Van Persie started the comeback in the 79th minute before Arshavin drove home a superb winner in the 83rd minute.
Jack Wilshere stated that Arsenal’s victory over top tier Barcelona is the high point of his fledgling career with Arsenal to date.
“It’s been amazing, the last couple of weeks, but this probably tops it,” said Wilshere.
“This is the best moment as an Arsenal player for me by far and we’ve got the second leg and we’ve got to go over there and get through to the quarters.
“In the first half they had a spell of 20 minutes where we couldn’t get the ball off them.
“We knew they were going to be like that, we just had to hold out and defend well and when we get our chance, counter and attack them, and we did.”
